What is the Sleep Number® Bed by Select Comfort®?

Select Comfort is a well-known maker of air beds. The company has a large marketing budget and pushes advertisements on many different mediums. You may have seen advertisements on television, in print publications, or on the Internet. Select Comfort has built their brand name through mass media marketing that ultimately comes at a high cost.
The costs of advertising on television and print media are staggering. Today, many companies have increased the costs of their most popular products to recover advertising dollars. When comparing Select Air Beds to Select Comfort, our customers notice very comparable products at very different prices. Select Air Beds cost up to 40% less than other luxury brands because we do not incur high marketing costs. Instead, we sell our quality adjustable air beds directly to our customers on the Web. This saves us, and we pass the savings on to our customers.

How is the Select Air Bed constructed compared to the Sleep Number® Bed?

First, it is important to recognize that the Sleep Number Bed is a good product. Additionally, it is easily the most recognizable air bed in the mattress industry thanks to a heavy and costly marketing campaign by Select Comfort. However, there are certain flaws with the Sleep Number Bed.

For example, Sleep Number Beds are known to have mold grow inside the mattress because there is no moisture barrier. We have improved upon this flaw by manufacturing Select Air Beds with a unique barrier that prevents mold formation.

Second, Sleep Number beds have dual air chambers that are separated by a thick foam layer. This foam layer creates a “Dead zone” in the middle of the bed that is considered uncomfortable and unsightly by many. We have improved upon this flaw by constructing Select Air Beds with air chambers that rest adjacent to one another, effectively eliminating the “Dead zone.”

Finally, Sleep Number Beds are manufactured with a low density foam along the side rails. According to customer reviews, this makes Sleep Number Beds prone to bowing out on the sides of the mattress. Select Air Beds are made with a Sling Rail Design that “locks” the rails along the entire length and width of the mattress. Our sturdier Sling Rail construction prevents our mattresses from bowing out on the sides. In addition, we use a higher-grade hose in our pump system, and it is easier to set our airbeds up.
